Saxifraga, the second full-length studio album from New read Quartet, invites listeners to imagine scenes of natural wonderment, to embrace the fragile, and to restore our human connections. Recorded over a 7-year period between 2016 and 2023, this album tells another story: that of an evolving musical family amidst a changing landscape. Championed by past and present members of the quartet, these three works, each singular and expressive, were rened through years of rehearsal, deep discussions, and dozens of performances. Together, these works chronicle New read’s resilience and point to a future of vital, tender and recip- rocal music making.

In Without World (2016), Scott Wollschleger “tried to imagine a musical landscape that is without the human idea of ‘world’.” Fragile multiphonics, subtle pitched material and whispering ourishes create the bedrock of Wollschleger’s worldlessness. e atmosphere is enhanced with small mechanical sounds from the saxophones, amplied through an audible breathiness.
