In the fall of 2020 The String Orchestra of Brooklyn asked me to compose a work which could be performed outside and require little to no rehearsal time. Not only did I want to create a work that was fairly easy to put together but I also wanted to create a work that gave the public an opportunity to both listen and voluntarily participate with a large sound mass in a public space. In Outside Only Sound each player is provided a set of small bells. The player are spread out in an open space to create a magical field of tinkly bells sounds. The bell part can also be performed by any number of non-musicians. The listening audience should be encouraged to walk around the musicians.
